Budapest, Hungary part I

Although Budapest has a reputation of rich history, I was surprised to find out its famous caves just underneath the city. After settled in my hostel just above a sex shop (which took me a while that this building is actually my hostel), I signed up with a group of backpackers to explore the caves. It was my first time going caving, and the city has a well known 15km system about half an hour by public bus from my hostel. We were divided into two groups, and I was the only girl in my group. Apparently all other girls wanted to stay together and when they said this group wanted one more person, I didn’t care much about moving over. Since most folks in this group were guys, the tour guide took us into a little deeper part of the cave. I never felt so claustrophobic and breathless before, but of course, I learned a lot and enjoyed a good company. The experience was very rewarding….

Another thing Budapest is known for is its plethora of thermal baths. I guess this goes hand in hand with so many underground tunnels caused by its thermal activity. After exploring the caves a group of us decided to hangout at one of the city’s biggest public thermal bathes in a park just 2 blocks up from our hostel. At first, I thought this was a palace converted into a pool, but not so fast….
