Instead of taking a 24-hour bus, I took the easy way out and flew Peru Star to the tiny airport in Cuzco. On the plane I met a friendly Japanese who lived in Ollantaytambo, a small Inca town an hour from Cusco, for some years before returning to Japan for the past three years – he’s on his way back to Ollantaytambo to open a Japanese Peruvian restaurant. He told me quite a bit about his passion of this land and how much he loved Ollantaytambo. So I added Ollantaytambo as one of the potentials to visit.
I met up with Al, a fellow American whom I met in my hostel in Spain, to plan out our Inca trek. We spent a whole day getting ourselves acclimatized and shopping around our trekking supplies. Next morning, we were picked up around 5am and were on our way for a four-day classic Inca trek.
