Since Gobi hardly has transportation, I signed myself up for a small group tour with 5 other backpackers.

“How could this be a desert, there are still grass and stones?”  We were quite surprised that this is the desert….

“It fits the definition of desert because of the amount of rainfall.” the guide explained.

“But we still can’t see the sand!”

“part of deep Gobi has sand, but many other part of the desert don’t have the sand…”

After a day of driving, we arrived to these strange-looking rocks with a temple ruin in the middle.  The guide said the name of the place but I knew there was no way I could pronounce it….
